PESHAWAR: The
funeral prayers of former Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed were
held near motorway Ring Road in Peshawar on Sunday, reported Express News.
The funeral
prayers were led by JI Chief Syed Munawar Hassan and were attended by several
political leaders including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Fazlur Rehman,
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Central President Javed Hashmi and Maulana
Samiul Haq.
Ahmed’s body was
then shifted to Nowshera where he was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard.
The funeral was
attended by a large number of JI workers, supporters and sympathisers.
Ahmed, 74,
passed away in Islamabad early on Sunday morning after experiencing a heart
attack. He was the head of the JI for almost 22 years, had decided to step down
from his post in 2009.
